BEVERLY: Joanna R. Lauranzano, 95, died Monday, November 15, 2010 in the Hunt Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following an extended illness.
Born in Fall River on June1, 1915 she was the daughter of the late Natale and Colomba (Marcucci) Lauranzano. She had resided in Beverly most of her life and was a graduate of Beverly High School class of 1933. A U.S. Army WAAC veteran of World War II, she served at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., where she received many commendations. She was honorably discharged as a staff sergeant in October 1946.
Joanna worked in gear engineering at the General Electric Company, River Works Plant in Lynn for twenty-five years before her retirement. An accomplished steno typist, she had also once worked as a court stenographer for many years.
A charter member of the Vittori-Rocci Post #552 of Beverly, she was also the Grand Marshall of the Memorial Day Parade in 1966. An avid traveler, she enjoyed her many trips to Italy, the Soviet Union, Portugal and France.
She is survived by four brothers, Ned Lauranzano of Shapleigh, ME, Enrico and his wife Donna Lauranzano of Amherst, NH and Rafael Lauranzano and Guido Lauranzano both of Beverly; two sisters, Sr. Frances Lauranzano of Windham, NH and Phyllis and her husband, John Willey of Beverly; a sister-in-law, Laura Lauranzano of Beverly and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was also predeceased by two sisters, Mary and her husband, Angelo Pinciaro and Yolanda Lauranzano, her brother, Joseph Lauranzano and three sisters-in-law, Doris, Frances and Alice Lauranzano.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday in the St. John the Evangelist Church, New Balch St., Beverly at 10:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. There are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan St., Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923. Interment will be held in the St. Mary’s Cemetery, Beverly.
