GLOUCESTER: Charles E. Langley, 86, died Monday, November 15, 2010 in the Seacoast Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. He was the husband of the late Margaret (Tarbox) Langley who died in 1989.
Born in Gloucester on March 31, 1924 he was the son of the late Louis A. and Dora (Silva) Langley. He was a lifelong resident of Granite Street and Hampden Hill and a graduate of Gloucester High School. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he served in New Guinea before being honorably discharged in November 1945.
Charles was employed as a machine assembler for sixteen years at Gloucester Engineering before retiring in 1988. He had also worked as a foreman at the former D. O. Frost Company in Gloucester for thirty years. A longtime member of the Capt. Lester S. Wass Post #3, American Legion, he served on the Executive Board and the Color Guard.
He is survived by his daughter, Janet E. Langley and his son, Larry A. Langley both of Gloucester; three nephews, Aarne Langley of Florida, Everett Langley and his partner, John Heald of Billerica and George Langley of Gloucester and his longtime companion, Nancy Howard of Gloucester. He was also predeceased by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Lillian Langley and Everett and Dolly Langley.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester from 5 – 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. His funeral services will be privately held in the Seaside Cemetery, Lanesville at the convenience of the family.
