Theodora A. "Dora" (Britto) Gomes, 84, of New Bedford died November 15, 2010 unexpectedly at home.
She was the wife of James Gomes, Jr.
Born in Pawtucket, RI, the daughter of the late Antonio F. and Anna (Braz) Britto, she lived in New Bedford most of her adult life.
She was a communicant of Our Lady of the Assumption Church and a Sunday School teacher. She was also a Eucharistic minister and Sector Coordinator for the East Coast Secular Branch Congregation of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary.
Mrs. Gomes was formerly employed as a secretary at Southeastern Massachusetts University for many years until her retirement. In her retirement, she was an office manager at New Bedford Council of Aging.
Survivors include her husband; a brother, David Britto and his wife Deborah of Providence, RI; 5 sisters, Irene Miranda and Jeanette Britto, both of East Providence, RI, Eva Thatcher and her husband Domingo of Carver, Dolores Plourde and her husband Joseph of Warwick, RI and Ann Marie Crawley of Cumberland, RI; and many nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Beatrice Palmer and Gertrude Ramos.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Saturday, November 20th at 8 AM. Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 9 AM. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Providence. Visiting hours will be on Friday, November 19th from 4-8 PM.
