GLOUCESTER: Kendra Lee (Arnold) MacFarland, 55, of 11 Chapel Street died Saturday morning, November 13, 2010 in the Kaplan Family Hospice House, Danvers following an extended illness. She was the wife of Norman "Scott" MacFarland.
Born in Gloucester on August 12, 1955, she was the daughter of Nancy J. (Russell) Arnold and the late John A. Arnold. She was a member of the Gloucester High School class of 1974. She had resided in Gloucester most of her life, other than the time she spent in Arizona as an Air Force wife. However, she made it known that her heart remained here.
Kendra was a people person and would go out of her way to help others. She was a longtime day care provider and nanny for numerous families on the North Shore. She had also been employed at the former Mass Coastal Seafoods, Ames Department Store and Sonolite.
Many will remember her as the overly exuberant fan of the Cape Ann Youth Hockey and the Fighting Fishermen hockey and baseball teams. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her husband of thirty-one years and her mother, she is survived by her sons, Kevin MacFarland, companion of Monique Cavanaugh and Norman "Michael" MacFarland; granddaughter, Kazira Slocum and great-grandson, Nicholai Slocum; siblings, Cynthia, wife of Raymond Mackey, Kenneth, husband of Carolyn Arnold, Julie, wife of John Nicastro, Kristin Roderick, fiancee of Kirk Wonson, John Arnold, Jr., Rachael Arnold; her in-laws, Donna, wife of Earl Unis, Jr., Patricia, wife of John McCarthy and Walter Cabral; aunts, Florence "Sis" Milne, Nancy Farina, Joan Curcuru, Minnie Pollard and Joyce McPhail; many great-aunts, great-uncles and cousins including, Marianne Owen. She also leaves her godparents, Brien, husband of Annette Kennedy and Margie Burns; eighteen nieces and nephews, five grandnieces and grandnephews, many "third sons" including, Francis Hawkins; and among many dear friends, her best friend, Jackie "Moses" Robinson, all of whom meant the world to her. She was also predeceased by her nephew, Matthew Lezynski, uncle, Frederick Russell, brother-in-law, Jamie Roderick, parents-in-law, Norman and Faye MacFarland, sister-in-law, Cathy Cabral.
Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday morning in the Community Church of East Gloucester, 7 Chapel Street at 11 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday evening in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester from 5 - 8 p.m. Please omit flowers.
