Melvin Thurston Hill, 71, of Eldorado died Saturday, November 13, 2010, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 15, 2010, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Rev. Denise Percival will officiate with burial to follow in Westview Cemetery in Nashville. Wayne Hill, Jerry Hill, Brian Atwater, Patrick Atwater, Shane Hill, Randy Hogan, Tracy Hogan and Robert Averitt will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Butch Houston, Adam Houston, Bo Houston, Tommy Massengill, Alex Harris, Willie Moore, Randall Moore, Buster Mercer, Bob Burnett, Steve Curry, Lance Golden, Harrison Brown, Jason Golden, Randy Riner and Melvin Thompson. The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 14, 2010, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mr. Hill was born on on December 24, 1938 in Tift County and was the son of George Hill and Rosa Hill, boith deceased. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Nell Hill; and one brother, Gene Hill. He was a member of the Nashville Mission and had lived in Eldorado all of his life. He was a farmer with Houston Farms.
Mr. Hill is survived by a special grandson, who was raised by the Hills, Josh Averitt and his wife Jayde; one son, Robert Averitt of Alapaha; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Wayne and Sharon Hill and Lyndsey and Connie Hill; one sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Pat Atwater; and his great-grandchildren, Alex Harris and Gauge Averitt.
