Manuel M. DeMedeiros Adriano, 91, of New Bedford died Sunday December 14, 2003 at St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness. He was the husband of Almerinda C. (Botelho) DeMedeiros.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Serafin and Ermilinda (Machado) DeMedeiros Adriano, he lived in St. Michael, Azores before returning to live in New Bedford in 1952.
He was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church.
Mr. DeMedeiros Adriano was formerly employed as a commercial fisherman in the Azores and in New Bedford, and had also worked at Dartmouth Finishing for 15 years until his retirement.
He enjoyed sportfishing, playing cards, and playing the guitar.
Survivors include his wife; 4 sons, Alfred Medeiros, Joseph Medeiros, Carlos DeMedeiros and Dennis Medeiros, all of New Bedford; 2 daughters, Maria Beatriz Melo and Carmen Medeiros, both of New Bedford; a brother, John Adriano of Fairhaven; 4 sisters, Hilda Medeiros Fumo of Fairhaven, and Caroline Viera, Ermilinda Correiro and Silvina Vassalo, all of New Bedford; 13 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.He was the brother of the late Maria dosAnjos DeMedeiros Adriano, Maria Conceicao Veloza, and Anna M. Adriano Moco
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday December 16, 2003 at 11 AM in St. John the Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will be at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Tuesday morning from 9-10:30 AM.
