Mr. Joseph L. Harrington, age 95 of Medford died Thursday in the Winchester Hospital. He was the husband of the late Angelina (DeMattia) Harrington. Mr. Harrington was born in Boston, the son of the late Joseph T. and Barbra (Gwynn) Harrington. His childhood years were spent in Jamaica Plain. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Following his time in the service, he began a career in the field of accounting. In earlier years, he worked for the former accounting firm Weston Thurston in Boston. He retired in 1980 but continued to remain active. He was often called for help in some smaller businesses and did tax work for relatives and friends. Mr. Harrington enjoyed vacationing and his destination of choice was Cape Cod with family and friends. He was also known to be an avid walker. He is survived by two daughters, Ann Cossette and her husband George of SC., Karen Harrington-Calabrese and her husband Paul of Medford, two sons: Joseph L. Harrington Jr. and his wife Joan of Medford, Stephen Harrington and his wife Ellen of Medford. Grandfather of Michelle, Kristen, Kathleen, Keri and Samantha. Brother of Eileen Mann of West Roxbury.
Funeral from the Dello Russo Funeral Home 306 Main St., Medford, on Monday at 9 am. A funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Francis Of Assisi Church, 441 Fellsway West, Medford, at 10:00 am. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Sunday 4-8 pm.
Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Joseph’s name may be sent to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham MA. 02701.
