Anna Brogans Brooks, 83, of 465 Rock Quarry Road, Pelham, died Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at home.
Born March 22, 1927, in Columbus, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Bonnie Lamb Brogans, and the late
Henderson Brogans, of Tazewell, TN. She had lived in the Pelham community approximately 60 years.
She worked for several years at the Danville Plywood Company and as a homemaker. Her hobbies were quilting,
sewing, gardening and growing flowers. She had a "HUGE GREEN THUMB' and could get anything to grow. She
was one tough mountain woman.
She was married to Johnny Ray "Bull Dog" Brooks February 11, 1947. He predeceased her in death April 14, 1988.
He was employed by Vulcan Materials Company.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda Brooks Gauldin, of Ringgold; four sons, James Earl Brooks (Pat) of Meridian, MS.,
Leonard Ray Brooks (Betty) of Ruffin, Larry Dale Brooks of Pelham, and Johnny Dennis Brooks of Victoria, VA.
She is also survived by grandchildren, Jennifer Gauldin Goodman (Rodney) of Ruffin, Randy Gauldin (Gina) of Ringgold,
Amy Gauldin Stanfield (Tony) of Danville, Regina Brooks Sharpe (Jason) of Reidsville, NC, Beth Brooks, Samuel Brooks and
Caleb Brooks, all of Ruffin, Joey Brooks (Meredith) of Meridian, MS., Anna Marie Brooks, Samantha Brooks, Johnny Brooks,
and Eric T. Jones, all of Danville. Also, seventeen great-grandchildren and four step-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by two brothers, George Brogans and Henderson Brogans, both of
Tazewell, TN., and three sisters, Lillie Gray, of Tazewell, TN., Betty Shiflett of Morristown, TN., Birdie Darby of
Little Rock, AR. She was the last surviving member of her generation. She was also predeceased by one daughter,
Mary Sue Brooks Anderson of Axton, who died in 2001, and by two grandchildren, Melissa Gauldin and Christopher Thomas
Gauldin of Ringgold.
Funeral services will be held at Barker Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 13, 2010 by Minister
Larry Durham. Interment will follow at Pelham United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 - 8:30 p.m.
on Friday, November 12, 2010 at Barker Funeral Home Chapel and at other times at the residence, 465 Rock Quarry Road
in Pelham. The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to all the nurses on 5A at Danville Regional Medical Center
and Physicians Dr. Gail Gerna/ Dr. Boddyapatti/Dr. Henderson and Dr. Pandya for the loving care provided during her illness,
and also, the Caswell Alamance Hospice Services for the excellent care they provided.
