J.B. Gaines, 94, of Fitzgerald, Georgia died Wednesday, November 10, 2010, at Dorminy Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held 2 P.M. Sunday, November 14, 2010, at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steve Hand and Rev. Keith Gaines officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Saturday evening at the funeral home.
Mr. Gaines was born January 6, 1916 in Bartow County, Georgia to the late John F. and Mary Margaret “Mattie” Padgett Gaines. He lived in Fitzgerald all of His life. Mr. Gaines was a Boilerman for Tolleson Lumber Company for 23 years, worked for the Fitzgerald Farmers Auctions for 22 years and was a former employee of Harper Motor Lines. He was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church for 54 years and was a Sunday school teacher for the junior boys. Mr. Gaines was a farmer and a former ASCS Committee member.
Mr. Gaines is survived by his wife of 70 years: Lillian Elliott Gaines of Fitzgerald; sons and daughters-in-law: Melvin & Marie Gaines and Gary M. & Shirley Gaines, all of Fitzgerald; daughter: Brenda G. Hancock of Fitzgerald; 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law: David C. & Mary Nell Gaines of Lizella as well as several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
