Irvin Lee Scearce, 86, of 1123 Allison Road, Pelham, NC, died Tuesday, November 9, 2010, at the Veterans Hospital, Durham, NC. Born August 5, 1924, in the Bachelors Hall community, he was the son of the late Joseph Gilbert Scearce and Bessie Thornton Scearce. He was married to Liza Quarles Scearce who predeceased him.
Mr. Scearce lived most of his life in Danville and had been in declining health for the past six months. He was a World War II veteran with the US Army Medical Corps. He worked as a supervisor with Dan River Mills and later as service manager at Swanson Motors. He was a member of New Heights Baptist Church.
He is survived by a sister, Juanita Pribble of Bachelors Hall and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Mary Ellen Scearce Hadden.
A service will be held in the mausoleum of Danville Memorial Gardens at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 12, 2010, with Rev. Harold G. Venable officiating. At other times the family will be at the home of his sister, Juanita Pribble, 684 Berry Hill Road, Danville.
