Fred W. DeJong, 83, of Derry, NH, died Monday, November 8, 2010, in Pleasant Valley Nursing Center in Derry. Mr. DeJong was born in Philadelphia, PA on October 9, 1927, a son of Cornelius and Dorothy (Seasholtz) DeJong, and had been a resident of Derry since 1987, formerly living in Winchester, MA and Philadelphia, PA. He was a US Air Force Veteran serving during the WWII era, and was a member of the American Legion Post Lester Chase Post 9 in Derry. Mr. DeJong was a graduate of Lincoln College Preparatory School, and Temple University with a BA in Sociology in 1974. He had been self employed as a fund raising consultant, owning and operating DeJong and Associates. He was a former member of the NH Right to Life where he served as a trustee, and a Chairman of the Development Committee. He was a State of NH Justice of the Peace, and a Notary Public; a member of the Rockingham County Republican Committee; a delegate to the 1996 State Republican Convention, and a member of the Republican State Committee. He was a member of the Legion of Honor-Chapel of the Four Chaplains; he held a Certificate of Community Action from the Allied Community Organizations; and had received an Award of Merit from the Academy of Christian Social Sciences. He was a current member of the Concord Bible Fellowship in Concord, NH.
He is survived by one son, Tad F. DeJong; four daughters, Sharon Lee, Beverly Akers, Norma Murray, and Faith Musngi; 11 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; one brother, Robert DeJong; and two sisters, June Blank, and Rochelle DeJong.
Calling hours were held on Sunday November 14, 2010 from 6 - 8pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry. A graveside service was held on Monday at 10:00am in Forest Hill Cemetery, E. Derry Rd, East Derry. A memorial service followed at 1:00pm in the Concord Bible Fellowship, 25 Rockingham St., Concord, NH. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to NH Right to Life, PO Box 421, Merrimack, NH 03054.
