Florence H. Angley of Pembroke Massachusetts, age 95, died peacefully at her home on November 10, 2010. A graduate of Black River Academy of Ludlow Vermont, Florence went on to attend and graduate from the Massachusetts General Hospital School of Nursing. In 1938 she married the late John C. Angley, M.D. then of Pembroke. Doctor Angley maintained a medical practice from their home in Pembroke for over 40 years. Florence and her husband had seven children: John H. Angley of Carver, Ma., Judith C. Angley of Gainesville Fl., Edward T. Angley of Plymouth, Ma., Jeraldine F. Scelec of Crawfordville, Fl., James Rogers Angley late of Pembroke, Joseph T. Angley of Debary Fl., and Jeffrey T. Angley of Marshfield, Ma. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. She came from the hills of Vermont but made a life for herself and her family in Pembroke where she spent the past 72 years. She was blessed with a wonderful physician husband, seven healthy children and a good life.
Up to the time of her death, Florence was active in both medical and civic affairs. She was the past president of the Woman’s Auxiliary to the Massachusetts Medical Society, past President of the Sacred Heart Parents Association of Kingston, Ma., Prefect of the Ladies Sodality of St. Joseph the Workers Church of Hanson, Ma., Member of the Pembroke Republican Town Committee, and active participant in the Pembroke Historical Society, the Mayflower Society and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She volunteered weekly as a greeter at the Pembroke Council on Aging and was a regular camera operator for the Pembroke Cable Studio.
She became interested in genealogy and learned that both she and John Angley were Mayflower descendants. Her ancestor, Robert Barker, settled in what is now Pembroke in 1628 and was a founding father of the Town in 1712 when it separated from Duxbury. Let us remember Florence Angley as a compassionate and wonderful human being, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, dedicated to her family and community.
