Obituary

John R. Davis, 88, of Westport, died Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at Somerset Ridge Center after a brief illness. He was husband of the late Catherine (Pettengill) Davis.

Born in Fall River, son of the late John H. and Marguerite (Wing) Davis, he had lived in Westport for most of his life. A graduate of Westport High School class of 1941, he also attended Campbell Secretary School in New Bedford for 2 years. A veteran of WWII, he served his country in the Unites States Navy and participated in the Normandy Invasion. He was the owner / operator of the former Davis Chevrolet in Westport. Mr. Davis enjoyed hunting, fishing, eating out and especially time spent in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. He was a member of the Noquochoke Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M. and was a 32nd Degree Mason.

Survivors include children: Catherine E. Davis of Westport, John P. Davis and his wife Barbara of Fairhaven and Rodman Davis and his wife Liza of Westport; 7 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; a sister: Marian L. Welsh of Dartmouth; and a multitude of nieces and nephews.

He was father of the late Laurie D. Deschenes and brother of the late Elizabeth A. Gomes and Ruth Talbot.

Private arrangements will be held at the convenience of the family.
