Obituary

Peabody: David A. Campbell age 74 of Peabody, died Sunday, November 7, 2010 at the NSMC / Salem Hospital following a brief illness. He was the husband of Veann C. (Miller) Campbell, with whom he share 46 years of marriage.

Born and raised in Salem, he was the son of the late Edmund A. and Helen (Hanlon) Campbell. During the Korean Conflict, he served with the US Army in France. Following his tour of duty, David returned to Salem and worked in accounting for the United Shoe Machinery Corp. in Beverly. While working, he attended Bentley College evening division and obtained his degree in accounting. He went into private practice accounting with the closing of the United Shoe.

Married to Veann in 1964, he was devoted to his wife and family. David was a truly gentle man, and a deeply religious and spiritual man, who was devoted to Christ and His church. He was a lector, Eucharistic minister and altar server for Immaculate Conception Church, St. James and the former St. Joseph Church, all of Salem. He was a Third Order Discalced Carmelite of Danvers, and in addition to his passion for the church, he devoted much of his free time to the accounting records of the St. Joseph Food Pantry.

In addition to his wife Veann, he is survived by 3 daughters, Julia A. Donahue of Lynn, Linda A. MacDonald and her husband Kevin of Essex, Anna Cauble and her husband Benjamin of Salem, a son, Peter E. Campbell and his wife Evelyn of Peabody, a sister, Eileen Smigliani and her husband Philip of Peabody and 10 grandchildren, USMC, Pfc. Jared Standley, Matthew Standley, Hogan, Marshall & Talya Donahue, Katerie, Chiara, Joshua, Cecilia & Zelie Campbell. He is also survived by several nieces and a nephew.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [Rt. 114 / 1-A] Salem on Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at 9 a.m. to be followed by his funeral mass in the Immaculate Conception Church, Hawthorne Blvd., Salem at 10 a.m.
Visiting hours: Monday (Nov. 15th) from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park in Peabody. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Food Pantry, P.O.
