Mrs. Burnice Dix, age 85, of 2058 Mt. Hill Road, Ringgold, died Tuesday, November 9, 2010 at her residence. She had been in declining health for the past six months.
Born June 20, 1925 in Rockingham County, NC, she was the daughter of the late John Owens and Josephine Harris Owens. She lived most of her life in the Ringgold Community of Pittsylvania County and was employed as a weaver by Dan River, Inc. for 36 years until her retirement at age 62. She was a member of the Non-Denominational Christian Tabernacle where she was a Sunday School teacher and sang in the choir. Her husband, Linwood Dix, predeceased her in May 2008.
Survivors include two daughters: Peggy Burnett and her husband Perry of Ringgold, Linda Robertson and her husband Bobby of Lexington, NC.; one son: Allen Dix of Ringgold; one sister: Gurthie Sloan of Ringgold; one brother: Haywood Owens of Ringgold; eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Rodger Dix, a sister, Esther Scearce, and a brother, Joe Owens.
Funeral services officiated by Rev. Daryl Joyce will be held on Thursday, November 11, 2010 at two o’clock from the Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, November 10, 2010 from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m., and at other times, they will be at the residence, 2058 Mt. Hill Road, Ringgold.
