Obituary

Norman Rawlins, Sr., 83, of Ocilla, Georgia died Monday, November 8, 2010, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held 2 P.M. Thursday, November 11, 2010, at the Ocilla Baptist Church with Rev. Rob Dowdle and Rev. Robert Couey officiating. Interment will follow in Brushy Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Wednesday evening at the funeral home in Ocilla.

Mr. Rawlins was born January 9, 1927 in Jesup, Georgia to the late John Henry and Janie Newton Rawlins. He lived most of his life in Ben Hill and Irwin Counties. Mr. Rawlins served in the U.S. Army during WW II. He was retired owner/operator of Rawlins Tire Company in Fitzgerald, former owner/operator of the Gulf Station in Ocilla and a former sales representative for Gordy Tire Company. Mr. Rawlins was a member of the Ocilla Baptist Church and the Steadfast Seekers Sunday School Class. He was a former member of the Irwin County Jaycees, the Elks Lodge, where he served as an officer, the Moose Lodge, American Legion and the VFW. Mr. Rawlins was a former city councilman and served on the Housing Authority board in Ocilla.

Mr. Rawlins is survived by a son and daughter-in-law: Henry N. & Donna Rawlins, Jr., of Ocilla; daughters and sons-in-law: Ann R. & Lawrence Williams of Leesburg and Norma Kay & Robert Davis of Ocilla; 4 grandchildren: Edward (Tricia) Williams, Lori (Jeff) Roth, Jeffrey Rawlins and Robin Davis; 4 great grandchildren and 2 nieces. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Harper Rawlins.

Memorials may be sent to the Ocilla Baptist Church or to The American Cancer Society.
