Obituary

ROCKINGHAM: Mr. Archie Lee McDonald, 80, of Rockingham, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 6, 2010.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, November 10, in the Mt. Olive Baptist Church with Pastor Delane Burris officiating. Interment with Masonic and Military Honors will follow in the McDonald Baptist Church Cemetery.

A lifelong resident of Richmond County, Archie was born in Rockingham on August 5, 1930 to the late Daniel W. and Lara McKay McDonald. He served in the US Army in the Korean Conflict and was a Supervisor in textiles before enjoying a career as a Financial Advisor for Community One Bank, and an insurance agent. He taught the Sr. Men's Sunday School class for many years, first at McDonald Baptist, then at Mt. Olive Baptist. In addition, he was a proud Mason and member of The Gideons International. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers Bill, Glenn, and Bernie McDonald, a sister, Esther McDonald, and a great-grandson, Tyler Kent Self.

He is survived by his loving wife, Ellen Nichols McDonald; a son, Thomas Keith McDonald of Halifax, VA; two daughters, Pamela McDonald-Allen of Rockingham, Paula McDonald Johnson and husband Sydney of West End; a brother, Raymond McDonald of Albemarle; two sisters, Henrietta Bryant and Marilyn Lampley both of Rockingham; five grandchildren, Brooke Allen, Nicholas and Isaac Johnson, and Daniel and Anne McDonald; and a great-grandson, Aidan Lee Self.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6-8:00 P.M. at Russell-Marks Funeral Home.
