BEVERLY: Charles H. Standley, 87, died Saturday, November 6, 2010 in the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers following a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Virginia (Cole) Standley who died in 1989.
Born in Boston on May 9, 1923, he was the son of the late Harold E. and Gertrude (McPherson) Standley. A graduate of Beverly High School, he was a lifelong resident of Beverly. A U.S. Navy veteran, he served in Normandy during World War II and was honorably discharged as a Pharmacist’s Mate in December 1945.
Charles was employed as a shipper at the former United Shoe Machinery Corp. in Beverly for forty years before his retirement in 1983. He was a member of the Bass Haven Yacht Club in Beverly and the Herman A. Spear Post #331, American Legion. He was also an avid golfer and enjoyed boating.
He is survived by two sons, Charles H. Standley, Jr. and his companion, Catherine Spanks of Gloucester and Richard C. and his wife Cathy Standley of Essex; three grandchildren, Theresa and her husband, Steven Cristoforo of Beverly, David Standley and his companion, Shaela Riley of Haverhill and Samantha Standley of Groveland and one great-grandson, Nicolas Cristoforo of Beverly.
His funeral services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 13th in the North Beverly Cemetery, Cabot St., (Rt. 97) Beverly at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. There are no visiting hours.
