BOYLSTON-Phyllis A. (Plumpton) Ling, 80, 0f 243 Edgebrook Dr., died Thursday, Dec. 11th in her home after an illness.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Robert T. Ling; her two sons, Robert T. Ling, Jr. of Worcester and Ronald S. Ling of Barney, GA; her twin daughters, Joyce E. Leblanc of Millbury and Sandra J. Johnson of Boylston; her brothers, DavidC. Plumpton of Titusville, Fla.and Russell A. Plumpton of Brewster, NY; her sister in-law, Phyllis D. Plumpton of Manchester, NH; her nine grandchildren, Sherry, Stephen, Ronald Jr., Joseph, Thomas, Mark, Robert, Gary, Christina and the late Robert L. Johnson; her 19 grandchildren and several nephews and nieces. She was also predeceased by her brother, Dean D. Plumpton.
Phyllis was born in Manchester, NH the daughter of the late Alfred E. and Nina (Annis) Plumpton and lived there many years, later living in Connecticut and Ohio before moving here in 1996. She graduated from Central High School, Class of 1940 in Manchester and later attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City. There her love of acting and singing grew and led her to perform in community theater for man years, as well as singing publicly. She was a member of the group “New Creation” for 5 years. They performed twice at President’s Park in Washington DC, for Presidents Carter and Reagan. She also loved poetry and composed many pieces of music and prose through the years. She an active member of the First Congregational Church of Boylston where she sang in the choir and was a member and past treasurer of the Boylston Garden Club.
Prior to her retirement, Phyllis worked as a claims adjuster for the Liberty Mutual Insurance Company in Manchester and later Worcester. She also worked for Lighting Services in Connecticut.
Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 17 at 10:30 AM in the First Congregational Church of Boylston, 10 Church St., Boylston. Committal services in the Pine Grove Cemetery, Manchester, NH will be held at 2 PM Wed., Dec. 17th. Calling hours at the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main Street, Shrewsbury are Tuesday, Dec. 16 from 5-8 PM.
