Worcester – L. Alfred Roy, 96, of Worcester died on Friday, November 5th in the Notre Dame Long Term Care Center after a brief illness.
His wife Isabelle P. (Phaneuf) Roy died in 1990. Mr. Roy is survived by a son Alfred L. Roy and his wife Janice of West Dennis, MA; his longtime companion Frances Brown of Rutland; 5 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces. He was born in Worcester son of the late Alfred and Eva (Morin) Roy and is predeceased by a son Bernard A. Roy who died in 2005; a brother Adrien M. Roy who died in 2009 and a sister A. Lorraine DiNoia who died in 1992.
Mr. Roy worked as a funeral director at the Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home which he owned and operated with his brother until his retirement in the early 1980’s. Upon retiring he enjoyed spending his summers on Cape Cod.
He was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Church and a parishioner of the former Holy Name of Jesus Church, the Golden Age Club at Holy name of Jesus Church, a former member of the Greendale Retired Men’s Club, a Life Member of the Harmony Club of Worcester and belonged to the Greendale YMCA which he frequented on a daily basis.
The funeral will be held on Monday, November 8th from the Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home 12 Hammond St. with a Mass at 10:30 AM in Our Lady of the Angels Church 1222 Main St. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery. A calling hour will be held from 9 to 10 AM in the funeral home on Monday, November 9th.
