Charles W. Stephens, 73, of Omega died Friday, November 5, 2010, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 8, 2010, at Omega Church of God. Rev. Ryan Carnes, Rev. Jerry Greer and Rev. Dewayne Dickerson will officiate with burial to follow in Omega Cemetery. Rickey Wells, Wayne Collier, Jimmy Collier, James Tyson, Duck Smith and Alton Benefield will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Emerson Collier, Rick Sirmans, Joe Kearce, Donald Smith, Ray Dorman and Lewis Jimenez. The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 7, 2010, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service.
Mr. Stephens was born on March 2, 1937 in Tupelo, Mississippi and was the son of Walter Daniel Stephens and Lucille Webb Stephens, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Pam Stephens, who died in 1996; and 18 brothers and sisters.. He was retired as a supervisor and groundskeeper at the Tift County Courthouse. He was a member of Omega Church of God, where he served as a deacon, and had lived in Omega most of his life.
Mr. Stephens is survived by his wife, Antley Harper Stephens of Omega; one son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Cindy Stephens of Omega; one brother, Kenneth Stephens of Verona, Mississippi; and two sisters, Shirley Colloum of Tupelo, Mississippi and Barbara Ruth Windham of Baldwin, Mississippi.
