Thomas P. McCarthy, beloved husband of Joan E. McCarthy, passed away peacefully after a long illness. Along with his wife, he is survived by his children, Kathleen Whalen, wife of Donald, Patricia Quinn, wife of Daniel, and Thomas P. McCarthy Jr., husband of Elizabeth Sinnott McCarthy, and his grandchildren, Meghan and Elizabeth Whalen, Ryan and Catherine Quinn, and Kathryn and Jack McCarthy. He is also survived by his brother Gerard E. McCarthy of Sanford, FL and many nieces and nephews.
Thomas was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey and attended Seton Hall University. Upon entering the military he became commanding officer of the 200th Infantry, 31st Division at Camp Atterbury, Indiana and was one of the youngest Company Commanders in the U.S. Army.
Upon his discharge from the military, Thomas began his sales and marketing career, where his unique talent for communication brought him success in sales of real estate and plastic manufacturing. He continued his sales career with Bekins Van Lines and Exide Battery Corp. Thomas became Publisher of Traffic Management Magazine at the height of his career, expanding the publication internationally. Following his retirement with Cahners Publications, Thomas became the North American representative of Containerisation International, a London Based publication.
An avid golfer, Thomas also enjoyed painting, gardening and entrepreneurial marketing of new products and ideas. He was a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus. Visiting hours will be held at MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street, rte 139 Marshfield Sunday, November 7th from 2:00 until 6:00 pm.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Christine’s Church on Monday, November 8th at 10:30 am,
followed by interment at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA.
