Andrew R. Lucas (1940-2010)
of Tewksbury
TEWKSBURY: Andrew R. Lucas, age 70, of Tewksbury, made the transition from Earthly Life to Eternal Life on Thursday, November 4, 2010, due to complications from Cortical Basal Ganglionic Degeneration.
Andrew was the son of the late Andrew and Cecilia (Orszulak) Lucas.
Born in Palmer, MA, he graduated from Saints Peter and Paul parochial school in Three Rivers in 1954, then Palmer High School in 1958.
Andrew received his associate degree in Communications Technology from the Milwaukee School of Engineering and joined Bell Telephone Laboratories in December 1960, where he worked as a Technical Aide, and was promoted to Senior Technical Aide, and Associate Member of Technical Staff. He received his BSEE from Northeastern University, graduating with honors in 1972. Andy then transferred to Western Electric in 1979, and held the positions of Senior Engineer and Member of Technical Staff. He retired from AT&T/Lucent Technologies in July of 1996, having amassed 35 1/2 years of service. He then served as an Engineering Consultant for Lucent Technologies for 2 1/2 years.
Andrew leaves his beloved wife of 42 years, Gloria N. (Barnack) Lucas, their three children: son, Anthony and his wife Valerie of Shrewsbury, daughter, Eva Lavigne and her husband Tony and grandson, Alexander Lavigne, all of Athol, son, Andrew Lucas and his wife Amy and granddaughter, Audrey Ellen Lucas all of Manchester, NH; one sister, Eva Pelski of Ocala, FL; two brothers, Bob of Ormond Beach, FL and Edmund and his wife Susan of Longmeadow, MA; also many cousins including several in Poland; several nieces and nephews in MA, FL and CT.
Andrew was pre-deceased by his brother, Daniel Lucas of Sunderland and by his sister, Dorothy (Lucas) Wozniak of Suffield, CT.
Andrew was a member of Etta Kappa NU, a national electrical and computer engineering honor society, was a third degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Council # 10877, an active member of St. Robert Bellarmine Parish in West Andover, where he served as a seventh grade religious instructor for at least a dozen years, served as a Eucharistic Minister, and with his wife was deeply involved in the Funeral Mass preparation ministry. Prior to his ministry work at St. Robert Bellarmine Parish, Andrew served as chairman of the Community of God's Love community council at the former Christian Formation Center in West Andover.
Andrew enjoyed get-togethers with family and friends, and enjoyed polka dancing, all outdoor activities, including, fishing, skiing, hiking, camping, and walking.
Calling hours Sunday, Nov. 7, from 4-8 p.m., at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. His funeral will be held Monday, Nov. 8, at 10 a.m., from the funeral home, followed by his Funeral Mass at 11 a.m., at St. Robert Bellarmine Church, 198 Haggetts Pond Road, Andover. Interment to follow at St. Mary Cemetery, Tewksbury.
