Joseph R. "Duke" Sullivan of Jamaica Plain and Boca Raton, FL, passed away peacefully on Tuesday Nov. 2, 2010.
Beloved husband of Dorothea (Flanagan) Sullivan. Devoted father of the late Joseph P. Sullivan and his wife Ida Mae of Jamaica Plain and John L. Sullivan and his wife Georgina of Braintree. Dear brother of Claire Donahue of Framingham, Rita Quinn of Arlington, Katherine Argus of Randolph, Joanne Sullivan of Whitman and the late Margaret Kelly of Virginia. Brother-in-law to Charles Flanagan of Westwood. Loving papa to John J., Jacqueline E., Joseph R. and Jocelyn F. Sullivan.
Duke attended Boston English High School, Class of 50 where he played varsity football. He attended Boston College. He served in the U.S. Army from Feb 1953- Jan 1955 and spent 18 months in a field artillery battalion in Korea. He received the Korean service medal, U.N. Service medal, and National Defense service medal. He was a retired transportation officer, Suffolk county/Boston penal system, member A.L. Post #76 Jamaica Plain, Fitzgerald VFW Post #561 South Boston, The Castle Island Assoc., AFSCME, The Torch Club & 100 Club of Boca Raton and former owner of Sullivan’s One in Park Square and Sullivan’s Two in Jamaica Plain.
Funeral from the P.E. Murray-George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 2000 Centre St. WEST ROXBURY, Saturday at 9 AM. Funeral Mass in St. Theresa’s Church, West Roxbury, at 10 AM. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Visiting hours Friday 4-8 PM. Interment St. Joseph’s Cemetery, West Roxbury.
