Phil Luke, 73, of Fitzgerald, Georgia died Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 11 A.M., Saturday, November 6, at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Earlie Holt officiating and Joe Luke giving the eulogy. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be held 7-9 Friday evening at the funeral home.
Mr. Luke was born March 29, 1937 in Fitzgerald to the late Russell D. Luke and the late Ollie Mae Roberts Wise. He lived in Fitzgerald all of his life. Mr. Luke was owner/operator of Luke’s Body Shop, a former barber and a former patrolman for the Fitzgerald Police Department. He was a major supporter of the Purple Hurricanes, a member of the Booster Club, served on the chain crew and helped paint the field. Mr. Luke was a member and former officer of the Elk’s Club. He served in the United States Army National Guard. Mr. Luke was a member of the Baptist faith and enjoyed watching Central United Methodist Church’s services on television.
Mr. Luke is survived by his wife of 53 years: Peggy Garrison Luke of Fitzgerald; son and daughter-in-law: Phillip Joe and Kathy Luke of Los Angeles, CA; daughter: Tonya Luke Puckett of Fitzgerald; grandchildren: Phillip (Shelby) Luke, III, Jason Luke, Nickie Luke and Luke Puckett; great grandchildren: Hailey Luke and Braxton Luke as well as several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a son. David C. Luke, 3 brothers and 1 sister.
