Obituary

Emily May (Morrissey) Ropp, 97, of South Walpole, died, Sunday, October 31, 2010 at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. She was the beloved wife of Clarence D. L. “Doc” Ropp who died in 1992.

Born in South Walpole on September 7, 1913, she was the eldest daughter of the late William and May (Patterson) Morrissey.

A graduate of Walpole High School, Mrs. Ropp went on to earn a bachelor's degree in library science from Simmons College, Boston, and a master's in philosophy from the University of Bridgeport, Connecticut.

She and her husband were at the University of Bridgeport, where she was a librarian and her husband was a professor of chemistry and the Dean of Faculty. After many years, they retired to her childhood home in South Walpole.

Mrs. Ropp enjoyed painting in oils, sculpting in clay, and creating crafts of all kinds.

She is survived by her sister, Adeline Marshall of Yarmouthport, and two nieces, Susan and Jane.

Another sister, Florence Rasenen, predeceased her.

Graveside services will take place privately at Knollwood Memorial Park in Canton.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to South Walpole United Methodist Church, 1886 Washington St., South Walpole, MA 02071.
