Mr. Gordon Franklin Stanley died Thursday, October 28, 2010 at his residence.
His funeral service will be Monday 11 AM at Porterfield Memorial United Methodist Church with interment in Crown Hill Cemetery. Rev. Nancy Scarbourgh, Rev. Leigh Ann Raynor and Mr. Joel Wernick will officiate. The family will receive friends Sunday 4 to 6 PM at Kimbrell-Stern Funeral Directors.
Mr. Stanley, son of A.C. and Margaret Stanley, was a native of Muncie, IN. He attended college at Purdue University, Ball State University and South Georgia College. His 40 year career with General Motors started in Muncie and took him to Olathe, KS; Fitzgerald, GA, Anderson, IN and Albany, GA. While with General Motors he was Plant Manager at 5 plants.
In Fitzgerald he served as a board member of Central United Methodist Church, Finance Chairman for the Blue and Gray Museum, Finance Chairman for Ben Hill County Heart Fund, Chairman of the Yellow Pine Boy Scouts of America, President of the Chamber of Commerce, Board Chairman of Dorminy Memorial Hospital and Board Member of the Rotary Club.
In Albany he has been on the Board of Directors of Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital since 1995, where he has been Chair of the Professional Affairs Committee and Chair for Phoebe Health Partners. He was active in United Way, Rotary Club, Boy Scouts, The American Cancer Society and Chamber of Commerce. In 1995 Governor Zell Miller presented Albany Delphi the GEDA Industry Appreciation Award.
After his retirement from General Motors he was Vice President of Institute of Advancement at Albany State University. He was a member of Doublegate Country Club and Porterfield Memorial United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Diane; son Daniel Stanley and his wife Kathy, Fitzgerald, GA; daughter Kelli Miller and her husband Laurence of Holly Springs, NC; 3 grandchildren, Emily Miller, Kyle Miller and Brandon Purvis; brother, Kelly Stanley and his wife Donna; sister Diane Robinson; brother in law George Piepho and his wife Merrily, 10 nieces and nephews and their children.
