BEVERLY: Eugene J. “Gene” Harrigan, 52, died unexpectedly on Saturday, October 23, 2010.
Born in Beverly on June 4, 1958, he was the son of the late John Louis and Jean Ann (Lynch) Harrigan. He was a graduate of the Landmark School in Beverly and had attended Curry College and Roger Williams College. Gene worked as a mechanical engineer in the medical products field.
Gene was an avid sailor, spending more than twenty years living and working on the water, where he was at home as well as at peace. As a third generation member of the Jubilee Yacht Club, he could often be found there helping the yard crew and other members with their boats or 'going to a meeting' with Bill W. and his friends.
He is survived by a sister Maureen Harrigan and her husband, David McDowell of Kennett Square, PA; a brother Sean and his wife, Lorelle Harrigan of Columbus, OH; six nephews and nieces, Maddie Harrigan, Devin Harrigan, Kyle Harrigan, Conner McDowell, Bryan McDowell and Mollie McDowell, as well as five cousins, Walter Schuchard, Peter Schuchard, Robert Schuchard, Dave Schuchard and Nancy Schuchard. He was also predeceased by a cousin, Peggy (Schuchard) Soltesz.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday in the Grondin Funeral Home, 376 Cabot Street, Beverly from 1 – 4 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Funeral services will be privately held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the First Parish Church, “Building Fund”, 225 Cabot St., Beverly, MA 01915. “Self-searching is the means by which we bring new vision, action, and grace to bear upon the dark and negative side of our natures. With it comes the development of that kind of humility that makes it possible for us to receive God's help. ... We find that bit by bit we can discard the old life-the one that did not work-for a new life that can and does work under conditions whatever.”
