Frederick J. Lee, 79, of Medway, former longtime Tax Collector for the Town of Medway, died October 23 at Delray Hospital in Florida from injuries he sustained in an auto accident.
Born in Millis, November 1, 1930, the son of the late Fern Henry and Margaret (Moore) Lee, Mr. Lee was a longtime Medway resident.
Fred faced many challenges in his life and he faced them with fortitude and grace.
When his father died, Fred became the mainstay of his mother until she died at the age of 92.
He was barely sixteen when his father died suddenly leaving a large dairy farm and cattle dealing business. Fred assisted by his younger brother Donald, carried on the business until its conclusion in 1955.
During that time Fred was also a good student at Medway High School from which he graduated in 1948 as President of his class.
After serving in the Army from 1955-1957 he was elected Treasurer and Collector of the Town of Medway and was reelected repeatedly until his retirement in 1992.
Fred also served on the Medway Cooperative Bank (now Charles River Bank) Board of Director for over 25 years.
He is survived by his siblings, Mary Lee of Newton, George Lee and his wife Charlotte of Medway, Carlisle Lee and his wife Nancy of Mendon and Robert Lee and his wife Marie of Sebring, Florida.
He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
His funeral service will be private with burial in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Millis.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, October 29 in the Ginley-Crowley Funeral Home 3 Barber St. in Medway from 6-9 p.m.
