Obituary

Richard S. Bakulski, M.D., 69, of New Bedford, died unexpectedly, October 26, 2010, at Rhode Island Hospital with his beloved wife by his side. He was the husband of Joan E. (Kaplan) Bakulski. Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Stanley V. and Pauline (Bindas) Bakulski, Richard graduated from New Bedford High School, Brown University and Tufts University School of Medicine. He was a Physician Captain in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam era stationed at Ent AFB, CO. He wintered in Sarasota, FL. A longtime resident of Andover, MA, he was a physician practicing in the Boston area. He was a 25 year summer resident of Round Hill, South Dartmouth. Richard is remembered as being adventurous, spontaneous, enjoying reading and watching and participating in sports. He was a member and former docent at the New Bedford Whaling Museum.
Survivors include his wife; a son, David Bakulski and his wife Mandy of Denver, CO; daughters, Elizabeth Peterson and her husband Dwight of Redondo Beach, CA, Catherine Bakulski of Greenwich, CT and Elaine Thibault of New Bedford; 2 grandchildren, Dwight Dane Peterson and Kieran Peterson.
His Funeral Service will be held on Friday, October 29 at 10 AM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. His family will receive guests on Friday morning from 9 AM to 10 AM prior to his service.
