Mr. Charles Edward (Freddie) Britt, age 65, of Rural Hall, passed away on Sunday, October 24, 2010 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.Mr. Britt was born in Robeson County on November 22, 1944 to the late Grady Pinknam and Maude Marie Williams Britt.Charles was a member of Woodland Baptist Church of Rural Hall. He served his country in the U.S. Army, Special Forces, taught Flight Instrument Aviation during the Vietnam Era, discharged with special honors. Mr. Britt retired from McLean Trucking Company, where he was Shop Steward for the Teamsters Local 391 (The Chief), Winston-Salem and Yellow Freight Systems, Charlotte, NC, after 30 years of service. After moving to Oak Island in 1993, Charles became a Building Inspector at Caswell Beach, Yaupon Beach, Boiling Springs Lakes and Southport, NC. Charles was a CAMA and FEMA officer, Fire Inspector, Code and Law Enforcement officer with a degree in Structural Engineering. He was a wonderful, loving husband and father. Charles loved buying and restoring corvettes. His favorite to own, a Red 1965 white top convertible.He is survived by his wife, Hilda Thomas Britt, one daughter, Vanessa Jean Britt; two brothers, Grady Paul Britt and Ronnie Gray Britt; one sister, Ann Marie Britt; a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Britt was preceded in death by a brother, David Harold Britt. A Graveside Service with Full Military Honors by the King American Legion Post 290 will be held on Thursday, October 28, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Crestview Memorial Park in Rural Hall conducted by the Pastor Tim Gammons.
