Conard E. Leighty, age 85 of Germantown Hills, Illinois passed away at 8:56pm Thursday Oct. 21, 2010 at Snyder Village in Metamora. He was born April 1, 1925 in Macomb, Illinois to Allen J. and Reah J. (Head) Leighty. He married Ruth C. Shilling Aug. 16, 1947 in Peoria. She died July 2, 1990.
Surviving are one son Robert (Karen) Leighty of Germantown Hills, and one daughter Kristina Burton of Spring Bay. Grandchildren; Monica (Steve Ahrens) Camper of Metamora whom Conard help raise; Scott (Jessica Hughes) Peterson of Peoria Heights, Heidi (Tony) Kamp of E. Peoria, Joanne (Rob VanDyke) Leighty of Hanna City, and Jennifer (Robert) Horsthemke of Washington. Conard is also survived by 15 great grandchildren, and one brother Allen J. (Helen) Leighty of Rockford Il. He was preceded in death by two brothers Calvin Leighty who was a twin to Conard and Billy Leighty.
Conard was WWII Army Veteran, he was a Senior Design Engineer for Caterpillar for 35 years retiring in 1983. Member of Izaak Walton League Metamora Chapter. He enjoyed golfing, bowling and fishing.
A Funeral service will be at 2:00pm Wednesday Oct. 27, 2010 at the Mason Funeral Home Metamora Chapel. Rev. Gary Salm officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00pm until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Metamora, where Military Rites will accorded by American Legion Post #89.
