WORCESTER-Harold G. Beams, 82 of 425 Pleasant Street died Tuesday, December 9th in Memorial Hospital. He leaves his wife of 62 years, Janice C. (Ingram) Beams; 4 sons Richard H. Beams of Seattle, WA and David F., Donald J. and Francis E. Beams all of Worcester; a brother Robert E. Beams of Rumford, ME; a sister Barbara M. Wallace of W. Boylston; 10 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, many nephews and nieces.
He was born in Worcester the son of Harold W. and Gertrude A. (Taylor) Beams, has lived here all his life and played semi professional baseball for the Worcester Bruins in the 1930’s and 1940’s. He was a WWII veteran of the 8th Army Air Corps and flew on D-Day. Mr. Beams was employed at Astra Pharmaceuticals in the shipping department for 20 years, retiring in 1986. He was previously employed at Worcester Gas Company for many years as a meter reader and service representative. He was past president and coach for the Cobb Little League and coached for the Babe Ruth Senior League. He was a lifelong Detroit Tigers fan.
There will be a graveside committal service at 10:00 AM on Saturday, December 13th in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Central Mass Shelter for Homeless Veteran’s, 69 Grove Street, Worcester, MA 01605. O’Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Avenue is handling the arrangements.
