John A. Mortimeyer, 86, of Morton passed away at 7:03am Friday October 22, 2010 at his residence.
He was born on March 29, 1924 in Chicago, the son of Dewey and Lavina Crismond Mortimeyer. He married Jane P. Gallo on August 9, 1947 in Chicago. She passed away on January 31, 2009.
Surviving are two children Nina Crick (wife of the late Steven) of Loves Park, IL and John Mortimeyer of Morton. He is further survived by 6 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
He was an honorably discharged WWII US Army veteran. After his marriage to Jane, they relocated to Morton in 1952. He was a Dr. of Optometry and was the co-owner of Mortimeyer Optical Center LTD with his wife until his retirement in 1996.
He was a member of Trinity Mennonite Church, VFW Post 5921 both in Morton and also a member of the Illinois Optometric Association formerly serving as vice president. He enjoyed golfing, boating, gardening and theatre.
Cremation Rites have been accorded and a memorial service is scheduled for 11AM Wednesday October 27th at Trinity Mennonite Church, 1901 S. Fourth St. in Morton with Pastor Michael Hutchings officiating. Visitation will be one-hour prior to his service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in his name to Trinity Mennonite Church and will be accepted at the church.
