GLOUCESTER: Thomas L. Doucette, Sr., 89, of Fort Square, died Saturday, October 23, 2010 in the Golden Living Center, Gloucester following a brief illness. He was the husband of Vincie M. “Chickie” (Randazza) Doucette.
Born in Gloucester on October 31, 1920, he was the son of the late William and Adese (Amero) Doucette. He was a lifelong resident of Gloucester and had attended Gloucester public schools.
A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he served as a coxswain and was honorably discharged in November of 1945.
He worked as a commercial fisherman out of Gloucester and Boston for over forty years. He had been employed by the Department of Fish and Wildlife aboard the Delaware out of Gloucester and the Albatross out of Woods Hole for eighteen years prior to his retirement in 1978. An avid golfer, he was a former member of the Rockport Country Club.
In addition to his wife of 68 years, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, William A. and Cheryl A. (Coull) Doucette Thomas L., Jr. and Cecilia (Kyrouz) Doucette; four grandchildren, William A. "Buddy", Jr., and his wife, Trina (Kerr) Doucette, David G. and his wife, Sara M. (Piraino) Doucette, Melissa F. and her husband, Jason Powers and Sean J. Doucette; six great-grandchildren, Clinton T. Doucette, Shelby A. Doucette, Faith E. Doucette, Abigail M. Doucette, Anthony W. Doucette and Cali T. Powers; a sister, Elizabeth “Betty” Hilshey and several nieces and nephews.
His funeral service will be held on Wednesday in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 9 - 10:30 a.m. Expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory to the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 408, Salem, MA 01970. Interment will be held in the Calvary Cemetery.
