Scriptures tell us "life is a journey." The journey of Margaret Rochette began of March 9, 1918. She was born Margaret Dorothy Grant in Boston, Massachusetts, a twin whose brother died at birth. She was to become the oldest child of Edward and Margaret May Grant and older sister of Helen Stanek, Virginia Buckley, Katherine Myshrall, and Robert Grant. Margaret was called Dolly by her family and while she baby sat for a family summering in Mattapoisett she met and eventually married Manuel Rocha. Together they raised their family first in Mattapoisett and later settling in East Bridgewater. In East Bridgewater, Dolly and "Mac" enjoyed being den leaders when their sons were in Boy Scouts and Dolly was a 4H sewing leader for her daughters. She was a fabulous cook, pies being a specialty and many people went to Ridder's Farm Stand in the 1960s especially for Dolly's pies. After her first husband Mac died in 1962, Dolly married Joseph E. Rochette, a neighbor, friend, and recent widower. Together they retired to Mattapoisett to live in 1972. Here Dolly continued her hobbies of gardening, sewing, cooking, and reading. She was a devoted grandmother, mother, and wife, but found the time to help her community. Helping others was something she thought very important and she found the time through the Mattapoisett Congregational Church Women's Club and the Guild, and F.I.S.H. Her special kind nature and infinite wisdom enriched the lives of those closest to her whom she leaves behind. Mourning her death and forever celebrating her life are her children and their spouses, Daniel Rocha and his wife Kathleen, Bruce Rocha and his wife Bette-Jean, James Rocha and his wife Susan, Katherine Rochette Hoshi and her husband Takao, and Margaret Rocha Rubin and her husband Andrew. Her twelve grandchildren were privileged to have learned many life lessons from their "Grammy." She was blessed as well with six great-grandchildren too young to appreciate their loss. All who knew her will not soon forget her loving ways. Life is a journey and death its destination. That long journey ended for Margaret on October 21, 2010. In lieu of flowers, Margaret would have liked a donation given to the Thornton W. Burgess Society, 6 Discovery Hill Road, East Sandwich, MA 02537, as making jelly and sharing it was something she enjoyed a great deal, or to the Mattapoisett Congregational Church, P.O. Box 284, Mattapoisett, MA 02739, where she and Joe were once deacons, or in her memory do something kind for someone else.
Her Memorial Service will be held on Monday October 25, 2010 at 12 Noon at the Mattapoisett Congregational Church. Burial in Cushing Cemetery will be private. Visiting hours are omitted. Arrangements are by the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home for Funerals, 50 County Rd., Mattapoisett. For online condolence book, please visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
