John E. Christie, 81, of Londonderry, NH, formerly of Danvers, MA,died Wednesday October 20, 2010 in the Maple Leaf Healthcare Center, Manchester, NH. Mr. Christie was born in Lynn, MA on September 25, 1929, son of the late John B. and Ethel L. (Shea) Christie. John served with the US Marine Corp during the Korean Conflict. He retired in 1972 from the Town of Danvers, MA where he was employed as a patrolman. He was a current member and past Commander of the VFW Post #2359 in Danvers. John enjoyed cooking and was considered a history buff.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Barbara E. (Katon) Christie of Londonderry, one son, The Rev. James L. Halley, Jr. of Los Angeles, CA, two daughters, Roberta M. Guertin of Barrington, NH, and Donna M. Renkert of Glencliff, NH, 12 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and one great great-grandson. He was predeceased by his son, John E. Christie, Jr., his brother, Lloyd G. Christie and his sister, Marilyn Beaumont.
Calling hours were held on Wednesday October 27, 2010 from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry, NH. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated by his son, The Rev. James L. Halley, Jr. on Thursday at 10:00am in St. Jude Parish, 435 Mammoth Rd., Londonderry. Burial was in the Annunciation Cemetery, Danvers, MA. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 3049, Syracuse, NY 13220-3049.
