Obituary

John W. “Papa” Sarantakes age 93, of Brockton died peacefully at home on Thursday October 21, 2010. He was the devoted husband of the late Louise M. (DelBene) Sarantakes. He was born in Boston a son of the late Vasilios and Constantina (Stavropoulos) Sarantakes and was a 1934 graduate of Mechanic Arts High School in Boston. During WWII he served in the US Army and upon his discharge he joined the Carpenters Union, Local 40 in Boston where he was a member for 63 years. For the past five years he had made his home with his daughter and previously lived in Stoughton.
In his free time John used his carpentry skills for any and all jobs around the house. He enjoyed time spent with his family and friends and especially telling stories to his grandchildren. He will be remembered for his quick sense of humor. John had been a member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Brockton.
John is survived by his daughter Donna L. Meaney wife of the late James of Brockton; two granddaughters Jennifer M. Tieri and her husband Marco of Charlestown and Kimberly M. Carlozzi and her husband Michael of South Boston and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of Aphrodite Rahilly of Boston and the late Andrew Sarantakes.
Funeral from the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont St. (Rte 123) Brockton Monday at 9 am. Funeral Service in the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church 457 Oak St. Brockton at 10 am. Burial in Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton. Visiting hours Sunday 3-7 pm.
