New Bedford - Joao Grilo, age 82, died Wednesday, October 20, 2010, at the New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home after a long illness. He was the husband of Amelia (Lopes) Grilo of New Bedford. Joao was the father of Joao J. Grilo of Portugal, Carlos Grilo of New Bedford and Grace and her husband John Pelicas of New Bedford. Mr. Grilo was the brother of Maria Piorro dos Santos of Portugal. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and 1 nephew.
Mr. Grilo was a son of the late Adelaide (Piorro) and Joao dos Santos. He was born in Buarcos, Portugal and lived in this area since 1971. Joao was employed as a fisherman. Mr. Grilo was a member of the First Portuguese Baptist Church.
Mr. Grilo’s funeral is from the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. on Saturday at 8 A.M. Religious services will begin at 9 A.M. Burial will follow at Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Friday 5 - 8 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited.
