John Bernard, of Atkinson NH, passed away on Oct. 20th after a long bout of Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. He graduated from Searles High School, Methuen, MA in 1952 and he furthered his education with a B.S. Degree in Manufacturing Engineering and a M.S. Degree in Engineering and Management from Northeastern University, Boston. John was a member of the Sigma Epsilon Rho Honor Society at Northeastern.
He served as a commissioned officer in the United States Military and was a long term member of American Legion Post 63, Salem, NH. John worked for Raytheon Company for 38 years in various management capacities ultimately ending his career as International Program Manager where he traveled to the Middle East, Far East and many major cities in Western Europe. He lived in Rome, Italy and Munich, Germany for a few years with his beloved wife Geraldine.
After retiring in 1992, John continued his avid interest in history, computers and sports. His wife and he continued traveling by cruising to Europe and Hawaii. He was predeceased by his beloved daughter Kathryn.
He is survived by his precious wife Geraldine, without whom he would have been lost; son Steven and grandson Zachary of Freetown, MA; two very special nieces Brittany Nault and Nicole Nault, whom he loved very much; nephew Jonathan Biros; sisters in law and brothers in law Cindy and Glen St Peter, Carolyn and Ted Biros, Sharon Nault, Ronald and Ryan Nault; mother in law Genevieve Nault all of Atkinson NH; and cousin, Anne Gillis Benedetto of Florida. John also leaves a very special and devoted friend, Ken Meissner of Andover MA, who helped him in so many ways when John was incapacitated.
Funeral Services will be private. Arrangements are by Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St., Salem, NH. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Humane Society of Knox County, Dexter Street, Thomaston, ME 04841.
