Obituary

Charles E. Simpson, 87, of New Bedford died Friday December 5, 2003 at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Boston after a long illness.

Born in Dartmouth, the son of the late William and Elizabeth (Ried) Simpson, he lived in New Bedford for most of his life.

He was formerly employed as a Chief Commissary Steward in the U.S. Navy for 21 years until his retirement in 1963. After he retired, he worked at the Newport Naval Base in Newport, Rhode Island.

Mr. Simpson was a member of the Grand Commandery Knights Templar of Maryland and the Palestine Commandery #7 Knights Templar of Annapolis, Maryland. He was a member of the Country Club of New Bedford for 52 years.

Survivors include 3 sisters, Esther N. Yuille and Florence R. Machado, both of New Bedford, and Edith M. Corbitt of Marianna, Florida; and many nieces and nephews.He was the brother of the late Katherine Field, William Simpson, Jr., and David Simpson.

A Private Funeral Service was held on Tuesday morning in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial with Military Honors followed in Oak Grove Cemetery.
