Obituary

Hanson – Maureen E. (Shea) Murphy, 63, of Hanson, died October 18, 2010 at the Blue Hills Alzheimer’s Center in Stoughton.

Born March 15, 1947, she was the daughter of the late John R. and B. Helen (Kelliher) Shea of Rockland.

Maureen was the loving wife of Francis T. Murphy, whom she married on June 9, 1969. She was also the cherished sister of Janet M. LaCombe and her husband Ronald of Whitman, John T. Shea of Rockland and Helen A. Ledwell of Jasper, Arkansas.

Maureen was very special to her nieces and nephews, Nathan Murphy, Joshua Ledwell, Johanna Faught, John Parent, Kelly Molito, Derek LaCombe and Danielle Boyle. She was also survived by nine great-nieces and nephews.

After graduating from Rockland High School in 1965, Maureen worked for Prudential Insurance of Boston, and the former Cardinal Cushing Hospital in Brockton where she helped with the set-up of their first computer department.

Although Maureen and “Murph” were not blessed with children, she was a blessing to many children. She left her job at the hospital to become a full-time nanny, which was a role she enjoyed for fifteen years. Maureen ended her working career as an aide in the Scituate Public Schools working with elementary school students.

In addition to her nieces and nephews, the children she cared for, and the students at school, she also taught CCD and shared her love of children and her love of God with many at St. Joseph the Worker Church in Hanson where she was also a Eucharistic Minister and a member of the Women’s Sodality.

Diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease in 2005, she fought a courageous battle against this relentless disease. We ask that in lieu of flowers you support the fight on her behalf by donating to the Alzheimer’s Association, Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090 or at www.alz.org.

Visiting hours will be held Thursday October 21 from 5-8 PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman. Her funeral services will be held Friday October 22 at 10 AM from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel followed by a funeral mass at 11 AM in St. Joseph the Worker Church, Hanson.
