Elsa Myrtle Olofson Caswell
“Roses are red and roses are pink. Elsa was one of those at age 84. She was born in Jamestown, NY on September 20, 1926 and had lived in Danville, VA for about 50 years. For the last 3 years she lived with her son, Craig, in Blairs, VA.
When she arrived in Danville she worked as a Candy Striper at Danville Memorial Hospital and also as a sitter for the elderly.
Her husband Edward Joseph Caswell worked as a bio-medical technician and then as a antitheist in Danville Memorial Hospital and served with the Danville Life Saving Crew before his unexpected death in 1982. Elsa and Edward were together for thirty some years.
Elsa also took care of her mother, Myrtle Hills Olofson, until she passed away on April 7, 1990 and Elsa’s father, Arvid Samuel Olofson, until he passed away on September 10, 1990. She took care of them in her home. Elsa loved to take care of people. She also loved to play the piano, organ and the accordion at the Danville Seventh Day Adventist Church, where she was a member. She also took every opportunity she could to witness to people about the Lord. One of her several pastimes was growing and arranging flowers. Her favorites where roses with distinct colors of red, yellow, white, pink and especially sky blue. Her delights, “sky blue roses” of her life were her boys.
Surviving her is Chester and his loving wife, Donna Caswell, their three daughters, Donnita, Michelle and Kelly. Now Kelly is married to Roy Hagan and with them their son Jamie and daughter Ella Darlena; Craig and his loving wife Ruth Caswell; their three boys are Bruce, Jason, Jacob and one daughter, Kimberly. Kimberly has one son, Jayden and two daughters, Alexis and Chasity; Calvin and his loving wife, Cynthia Caswell have one son, Chad and one daughter, Crystal. Crystal is married to Daniel Pruitt. They have two sons, Colby and Daniel and two daughters, Amber and Selena. We can’t leave out Elsa’s most beloved companion, her dog Daisy May.
The funeral will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 21, 2010, at Seventh Day Adventist Church, 1543 Piney Forest Road, Danville, Virginia, with Elder Charles Hutcherson and Pastor Daniel Royo officiating. Interment will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens.
