Obituary

WEBSTER – Phyllis (Grocki) Poplawski, 84, died Friday, December 5, in Oakwood Rehabilitation & Nursing Center. Her husband, Joseph R. Poplawski, Sr., died in 1978.

She leaves 3 sons, Joseph R. Poplawski, Jr., Richard P. Poplawski, and John J. Poplawski, all of Webster; 2 brothers, John Grocki and Vincent Grocki, both of Northbridge; 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by 2 brothers: Loarimer “Pete” Grocki of East Douglas died in 1991, and Joseph J. Grocki of Douglas died in 2000.

She was born in Central Falls, Rhode Island, daughter of Albert and Agnes (Susski) Grocki. She lived in East Douglas before moving here in 1939.

Mrs. Poplawski first was a machine operator at Worcester Paper Box Co. here for several years. She was then an assembler at the American Optical Co. in Southbridge for 10 years. After, she was a clerk in the clothing department at KMart for 7 years, retiring in 1997. She was a former member of St. Joseph Basilica, and a member of the Webster Senior Center. She was an expert pastry chef and Polish food cook.

A private graveside service was held in St. Joseph Garden of Peace Cemetery. Donations may be made to Saint Louis School Endowment Fund, 15 Lake Street, Webster, MA 01570 Sitkowski & Malboeuf Funeral Home, 340 School Street, directed arrangements.
