Obituary

SALEM - John J. Bochynski, 91, husband of Irene (Palmer) Bochynski, of Marblehead, died Sunday evening, October 17, 2010, in the Salem Hospital following a short illness.

Born in Salem, he was the son of the late Stanislaw and Rozalia (Furtak) Bochynski. He was a resident of Salem until moving to Marblehead in the late 1970's.

During WWII, Mr. Bochynski served as a Captain with the US Marines, 2nd Marine Corps Division in the Pacific Theater. He was redeployed during the Korean Conflict.

John founded the John J. Bochynski Insurance Agency, which he operated for over 25 years on Essex Street in Salem until his retirement in the mid 1980's.

He was a graduate of Salem High School and Temple University, where he played football. He later coached at Beverly High School as an assistant coach under Charlie Walsh. He later became a football coach at Ipswich High School. His hobbies included wood carving and painting.

He was a former member of Kiwanis, The Polish Legion of American Veterans, Post #55 and the Polish Falcons, Nest #188, all of Salem.

Besides his wife, with whom he shared 64 years of marriage, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, John J. Jr. and Kimberly Bochynski of Peabody, two daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Robert Wright of Salem, Joan I. and William Barber of Landenberg, PA, three grandchildren, Brad Wright and his wife Courtney of New York, Taylor I. Wright of Salem, Kathryn Barber of Landenberg, PA, a great granddaughter, Meredith, a brother Louis Bochynski of Beverly and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother Theodore Bochynski.

His funeral service will be held Thursday, October 21, 2010 at 8:45 am from the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 am at Our Lady Star of The Sea Church, 85 Atlantic Ave., Marblehead. Visiting hours are Wednesday at the funeral home from 6 to 8 pm. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery, Salem.
