Salem: Edna M. (Breard) DeVoe, age 96 of Salem, died at Blueberry Hill Healthcare in Beverly following a brief illness. She was the wife of the well known Salem photographer, the late Emile J. DeVoe.
Born in Taunton and raised in Beverly, she was the daughter of the late Noel and Mary Ann (St. Pierre) Breard. Edna moved to Salem when she married Emile in 1935. The years following were devoted to her ever growing family. In later years, she worked for Barnett Fabric Shop for 12 years and for the Daniel Lowe Company for 15 years. At the age of 80, she decided it was time to retire.
Edna was always on the go and loved being with people. She was active with her late husband in the Richelieu Club of Salem and was a member of the Richelieu North of Boston Club. She was a member of the former St. Joseph Parish and was currently a member of St. James Parish. An avid reader and speed reader, Edna was a talented painter as well. She will be greatly missed by her family and her many friends.
She is survived by 6 sons, Armand E. DeVoe and his wife Patricia of Beverly, Leonard N. DeVoe and his wife Pat, David H. DeVoe and his wife Anne, and Wilfred D. DeVoe all of Salem, Victor J. and Marcel J. DeVoe both of Peabody, 2 daughters, Mariane E. Legault and her husband Albert L. of Beverly and Therese M. Noll of Salem. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
