John T. Simpson, 65

John T. Simpson, 65, of Norton formerly of Mansfield passed away unexpectedly on Saturday October 16, 2010 at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. He was the beloved husband of Diane A. (Birman) Simpson to whom he was wed for the past 31 years.
Born in Arlington, MA on June 2, 1945 he was a loving son of the late Robert C. and Evelyn C. (Doherty) Simpson.
John grew up and was educated in the Jamaica Plain section of Boston and was a 1963 graduate of Jamaica Plain High School. Following graduation he proudly served his country in The United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant (E-5) on July 21, 1967.
A retired Police Officer, Mr. Simpson served as a Patrolman for 34 years on the Mansfield Police Department before retiring on August 31, 2005. He also worked for seven years as a Police Officer for Conrail and as a special police office for the Town of Sharon, and also served on the Capital Police Department in Boston for two years.
John was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Bay State Lodge #30 and was a former member of the Massachusetts Police Officers Association. His other memberships included being a life member of the DAV and was a member of the Mansfield VFW.
John’s family was always the first priority in his life. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and bowler, and enjoyed trips taken to the casinos in Atlantic City, Connecticut and Rhode Island. He had made his home in Norton for over 20 years and had formerly resided in Mansfield.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his devoted children Deana M. Travers and her husband Chuck of Mansfield, Jeffrey R. Simpson of North Haverhill, NH, Donald J.W. “DJ” Travers and his wife Helena of Middleboro, Michael V. Simpson of North Haverhill, NH and Daryl W. Simpson of Mansfield. The dear brother of Robert Simpson of Port Charlotte, FL, Darrell Simpson of Wayland and the late Walter Simpson, John is also survived by his cherished grandchildren Keara, Seth, Brendon, Hailey, Christian and Nina and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Wednesday October 20th at 10:00 A.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home 55 North Main St. Mansfield. Burial with military honors will follow in the Timothy Plain Cemetery, Norton.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday October 19th from 5-8 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home.
