Obituary

Jeanne Barnes Compton, age 76, of 733 Garland Street, passed away on Monday, October 11, 2010 in Roman Eagle Memorial Home where she had been a resident for the past 6 weeks. She had lived with her daughter seven months before entering the nursing home.

Born March 22, 1934 in Danville, she was the daughter of the late Lonnie Barnes and Gracie Shaw Barnes. She was very talented and made special clothing for a number of people,and was employed as a seamstress for Dan River, Inc. and for Health Tex. Mrs. Compton was a member of Riveroak Church of God where she sang in the choir. She was married to Riley Lindsey Compton, who survives.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by one daughter: Karen C. McDaniel and her husband Frank H. McDaniel of Danville; two sons: Alen L. Compton of Danville, Clinton M. Compton and his wife Joyce Compton of Danville; two brothers: Kenneth Barnes and his wife Shelby Barnes of Danville, Emery Barnes and his wife Veronia Barnes of Martinsville; one sister: Lois Tuck of Danville; 6 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by one sister, Patti Turner.

Funeral services officiated by Rev. Donnie Anderson will be held on Thursday, October 14, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. from the Riveroak Church Of God. Interment will follow in Highland Burial Park.

The family will receive friends at Swicegood Funeral Home on Wednesday evening, October 13, 2010 from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. and at other times they will be at the residence of her daughter, Karen McDaniel, 413 Southland Drive, Danville.
