Obituary

Mr. Wayne Francis Smith, a longtime resident of Malden, died at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, Massachusetts, on Tuesday, October 12, 2010. He was 74 years old.
Born in Boston, Massachusetts, on June 7, 1936, he was the son of the late Nelson B. and Eleanor (Powers) Smith. Mr. Smith was a US Navy veteran, serving in the Korean War and Vietnam conflict. He entered the military at Boston on June 1, 1954 and received his honorable discharge from the US Naval Receiving Station in Brooklyn, New York. Mr. Smith was awarded the National Defense Service Medal for his service.
In civilian life, Wayne worked as a forklift operator for many years at the Hollingsworth & Vose Paper Company in Walpole. Mr. Smith enjoyed collecting all types of items throughout his life and was also an avid gardner around his house.
He will be missed by his siblings; Eleanor R. Santoro of Norwood and William A. and his wife Margaret E. (McNevin) Smith of Medford. He was also the brother of the late Frederick, Paul, Robert and Warren Smith and Joan Kern and brother-in-law of the late Henry Santoro.
His funeral service was celebrated in the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford, Saturday, October 16, 2010, at 7 PM. Many relatives and friends were in attendance.
