Meta “Dorothy” Snead, 96, of Washington, passed away at 8:45 a.m., Wednesday, October 13,2010 at Washington Christian Village.
Dorothy was born on February 26, 1914 in Cazanovia Township in Woodford County to Herman and Dora Schlimmer Schone. She married Lyle “Ted” Snead in 1932. Ted died on July 11, 1992 in Peoria.
Among those surviving is one daughter, Anita Snead of Atlanta, IL; two grandsons, Samuel (Marla) Reeder and Thomas (Debbie) Reeder, both of Washington; one granddaughter, Marla (Ryan) Lang of Washington; six great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter and several nieces and nephews. Dorothy was also preceded in death by one daughter, Ruth Lange who passed away on March 21, 2010 in Washington, seven brothers and two sisters.
Dorothy had worked for many years as a clerk at Block & Kuhl Department Store in Peoria prior to her retirement in 1960. Following her retirement, Dorothy enjoyed helping friends in their transportation needs getting to the doctor or other appointments that they needed driven to.
She was a longtime active member of Sunnyland Christian Church. Dorothy cherished her friendship with church members as well as her neighbors of many years.
A memorial service for Dorothy will be held on Saturday, October 16, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Mason-White Funeral Home with Pastor Evan Williams officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial of ashes will follow in Glendale Cemetery in Washington. Cremation rites have been accorded.
